About the Instructor

Professor Christopher J. Seeger

The workshops will be taught by Professor Christopher J. Seeger, GISP, ASLA

Professor Seeger is a Morrill Professor and Extension Specialist in the Department of Landscape Architecture at Iowa State University, where his work focuses on data crowdsourcing, geospatial technology, data visualization, and community-driven mapping and planning. He has led extension and outreach programs in spatial data and geospatial tools for decades and has trained hundreds of learners through in‑person and online workshops and courses.

He teaches courses on web mapping, spatial data visualization, and GIS, covering modern tools such as QGIS, R, and Tableau.

Seeger’s research and application interests include integrating geospatial technologies with collaborative design processes and public participation GIS, developing accessible community indicators and datasets, and applying spatial data science to real-world challenges. He leads the ISU Extension and Outreach Indicators Program and co‑directs the Data Science for the Public Good Young Scholars program.

He holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from Iowa State University and is a Certified Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) and a Profesional Landscape Architect.
