Installing QGIS

To participate in the workshop, you must install QGIS Desktop before arriving.

⚠️ IT Permissions & Installation Support

If you are using a government, university, or employer-issued laptop, you may need IT authorization to install software.

Please request any necessary permissions well in advance of the workshop to avoid delays.

If you encounter any issues installing QGIS, please contact the instructor before the workshop so we can troubleshoot in advance.

Current Version Information (July 28, 2026):

• The current Long Term Release (LTR) is QGIS 3.44.12
• A new version with the latests features can be found in QGIS 4.20

You are welcome to install either version, but know that there are some subtle changes in the labeling of tools, toolbars and menus between the versions of QGIS.

Verify Installation

Before arriving at the workshop:

• Open QGIS.
• Confirm it launches without errors.
• Verify the version number under Help → About.
